The Living System
Osa Peninsula
Professional development for educators in Osa Peninsula
Osa Peninsula
To transform our classrooms, we must first regenerate ourselves. This journey takes you from the urban pulse of San José to the raw, unfiltered wild of Proyecto Campanario on the Osa Peninsula. Accessible only by boat and nestled between the Pacific Ocean and primary rainforest, this is one of the most intense "living laboratories" on Earth. Here, we strip away the "busy-ness" of modern life to reconnect with our core purpose. This immersive experience for educators is a call to move from professional isolation to a biological network of trust and interdependence, using the rainforest not just as scenery, but as a map for regenerative pedagogy.

ACTING & COLLABORATING (Connection and Interdependence).
Day 1
The Decompression We begin in San José, but our minds are already turning toward the wild. After arriving and settling into a quiet hotel surrounded by gardens, we gather for our Opening Circle: ""The Weight We Carry."" Here, we skip the CVs and job titles. Instead, we share what professional armor we are exhausted from wearing. We share a quiet dinner, setting our intentions to slow down and simply arrive, marking the beginning of this professional development for teachers in Costa Rica.
Day 2
Crossing the Threshold This is where the adventure truly begins. We fly to the Osa Peninsula and board a boat for a ride through the mangroves and out onto the open ocean, landing on the golden sands of a remote reserve. There are no roads here, just the jungle and the sea. Upon arrival, we hold our ""Digital Sunset"" ceremony, voluntarily switching off our phones to tune into a different frequency. We end the day with a sensory immersion walk, learning to stop analyzing and start listening to the cacophony of life around us as part of this immersive experience for educators.
Day 3
Roots & Dead Wood Waking up to the roar of howler monkeys, we dive into the metaphor of the forest. We hike to massive ancient trees for our ""Old Growth & Dead Wood"" workshop. Just as trees shed branches to survive storms, we journal about the professional habits we need to let go of to survive the school year. The afternoon is gifted to you for the workshop “Solitude”, time to swing in a hammock, watch the waves, or sit by a stream with absolutely no agenda, confronting the beautiful discomfort of stillness within this global learning experience for teachers.
Day 4
Interdependence & The Night We move from the canopy to the coral. We take a boat to a protected marine sanctuary for a guided snorkeling expedition. As we drift over the reef, we observe how coral polyps and algae coexist in perfect symbiosis, a living lesson in interdependence. Back on land, we map these biological relationships to the human ecosystem of our schools. As the sun sets, we venture out for a Night Walk. Under the cover of darkness, we navigate uncertainty together, a powerful lesson in leading students into a future we cannot fully see, strengthening the foundation of professional development for educators in Osa Peninsula.
Day 5
Regeneration In nature, there is no such thing as waste; everything is food for something else. We visit the station’s regeneration plots to explore ""Failure as Fertilizer."" We share our professional struggles in a safe container, reframing them not as deficits, but as essential nutrients for our growth within this teacher retreat focused on renewal and resilience. The afternoon opens up for creative expression, drawing, writing, or simply building with natural materials, reconnecting with the joy of creating without the pressure of grading.
Day 6
The Inner Fire We spend the morning in a Mini Vision Quest, finding a sit spot in the forest to be alone with our thoughts and the trees. The goal? To draft your Educator’s Manifesto, a declaration of how you will show up on Monday morning, not as a tired administrator of curriculum, but as a revived human being. We close our journey with a Fire Ceremony on the beach, celebrating the transformation of the cohort under a blanket of stars, consolidating the impact of this professional development for teachers.
Day 7
The Return We leave the reserve the way we came, by boat, carrying the rhythm of the tides and the forest back with us. After a flight back to San José, we say our goodbyes, heading home not just with photos, but with a renewed spirit and a living systems mindset to plant in our schools after this global competence training for teachers in Costa Rica.
