FIELD SKILLS TRAINING Course



Program Overview


Are you passionate about global travel? Do you have experience working with students in experiential programs? Are you an outdoor educator that wants to make the transition to leading programs abroad? Are you a scholar who is passionate about international development and responsible, empathetic immersion in different countries?

Join Envoys for our Field Skills Training Program! This 7 day, 6 night program in Bogota, Colombia will provide you with the skills, global perspective, and qualifications necessary to apply to any Program Leader position in the Global Education, Study Abroad, or Gap Year industries. Program sessions include Risk Management Analysis, Operations, Field Educator training, Global Citizenship Development, an introduction to Crisis Management, and much more. Plus, you’ll meet like-minded educators interested in this field and grow your personal network of Global Citizens.

You may also choose to take our additional 2-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course to gain certification through SOLO.

Felipe Correa Jaramillo

Over the course of his career, Felipe has spent hundreds of days traveling with groups of students throughout the world. For him, to be in the field with children and youth means the realization of his dream of educating in classrooms where there are no walls. This program was born from his passion for helping others develop the leadership and experiential education skills that have made him so successful in the field.

Carlos "Flaco" Hincapié

Carlos "Flaco" Hincapié

Flaco has more than ten years of experience leading groups of students and adults through the wilderness. He is a certified wilderness first aid instructor and worked in both urban and rural environments managing emergency situations. He spent several years working as an EMT on an ambulance and later as a Risk Management Officer for an outdoor education organization.

Accommodations

Program participants will stay in double rooms in one of Envoys partner hotels in Bogota.

TRANSPORTATION

Envoys will organize all transportation for the program, and is included in the program fee. The program also includes airport transfers in-country.

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS

Program participants must book their own flights to Bogota. Please plan to arrive between 2pm – 6pm local time on Wednesday, December 27th. Envoys will arrange for group transportation from the airport to the hotel.

EVENINGS

There will be a Program Welcome Dinner and a Program Closing Ceremony and Dinner. Otherwise, program participants are encouraged to dine and socialize together in the evenings. Suggested activities and things to explore can easily be arranged by Envoys.

PROGRAM SESSIONS

Sessions and workshops will be held at Envoys’ offices in Bogota, and will run from early morning until mid-afternoon each day. Sessions will be active, participatory, and be held both indoors and outdoors. Expect many different kinds of learning, through lectures, simulations, workshop activities, individual reflections, and small/large group discussions.

WILDERNESS FIRST AID

Participants have the option to stay an additional two days for a Wilderness First Aid course in Bogota taught by a SOLO certified instructor. The additional cost for this course and materials is $150.

New Year’s eve!

We welcome 2018 with our team at a New Year’s party and celebration at Andres Carnes de Res, one of the most famous clubs and restaurants in South America.

Program Completion

Participants who complete this program to the standards of an Envoys Global Educator will receive a certificate of completion that outlines the training and skills received. This will enable applicants the eligibility to apply for Envoys instructor roles. Moreover, Envoys will be glad to speak to these qualifications as a reference for any other roles a participant applies for with other organizations.
